SQL error ” Specified cast is not valid (SqlManagerUI) ” in SQL Server 2014 Database Restore

Hi friends,One day, one of my friend gave me a database backup for restoring. He was facing issue in restoring that database backup.he gets error ” Specified cast is not valid (SqlManagerUI) ” .So i tried to restore it in my SQL Server 2008 instance as shown below

Step 1

SQL SERVER – Restore Error: Specified cast is not valid (SqlManagerUI)

Step 2

Specified cast is not valid (SqlManagerUI)

Step 3

Specified cast is not valid (SqlManagerUI)

Step 4

Specified cast is not valid (SqlManagerUI)

Step 5

Specified cast is not valid (SqlManagerUI)

Yes This is the same error got for my friend, when he tried to restore this backup file.

Specified cast is not valid (SqlManagerUI)

But i tried to restore that same database backup in SQL server 2014 instance which is also in my system. It works fine .it restored successfully

Specified cast is not valid (SqlManagerUI)

So fix for SQL error “Specified cast is not valid (SqlManagerUI)” is to restore the database backup in same SQL Server version or higher versions. In this case,Database backup was taken from SQL Server 2014,but we were trying to restore it in SQL Server 2008 .So we got the error. But it can restore in SQL Server 2014 and higher versions without any error.
